It is a breed of dog originating from Germany, known for its elegance, strength, and intelligence. Originally bred by tax official Louis Duberman in the late 19th century, the aim was to create a breed of dog capable of escorting tax officials safely through dangerous streets. Medium to large in size, muscular, with short and smooth coat of various colors. Ears can be naturally drooping or trimmed, and the tail is usually shortened in childhood to enhance the appearance and ability of working dogs. Smart, loyal, and brave in personality, very protective of family members, but may show caution towards strangers. Highly trainable and often used as police dogs, search and rescue dogs, and military dogs.
